The
book contains 27 superb reproductions of original etchings by
William Berry
made in Oaxaca,
Mexico in 2003. Based on an abstract style, the images
were created as monotypes over a plate of aquatint. While each
image is unique, the complete series that encompasses the book
describes the light, land, nature and sky of the valley of Tlacolula,
particularly that of the pre-Hispanic
Zapotec city of Dainzú.

The
paper used for this book was made especially for this production.
Free of chlorine and acid, virgin cotton fiber was employed to
give it texture, color and caliber. As a result, each reproduction
appears to be an original which the reader may choose to frame
and hang or enjoy in book form. The images are accompanied by
an essay written especially for this work by Fernando Gálvez
de Aguinaga, director of the Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca,
and translated into English. The edition is limited to 2,000 copies.
